JEFFREY HAMMOND HORNE
After a courageous year long struggle, Jeffrey Horne lost his battle with leukemia on January 30, 2008. He was diagnosed with the disease on his twentieth birthday in 2007. Pisgah Christian School, where he played varsity football. Until his illness, Jeffrey attended Georgia Southern University, where he participated in many campus activities and was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity. Jeffrey was a devoted sports enthusiast, able to recite vital statistics for all of his favorite college football teams. He also loved fishing outings with his friends and family. BRIAN DANIEL HORNE
On June 16, 2008, Brian Horne passed away unexpectedly. An indomitable spirit with a unique snese of humor and sharp intellect, Brian was attending Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. Brian graduated in 2006 from Mount Pisgah Christian High School, where he played varsity football. Brian was the first recipient of the “Brian Horne Coaches’ Award,” which will be awarded in perpetuity, and is named in his honor for demonstrating perseverance, energy, and determination on the football field. Brian continued to be a sports enthusiast even when not actively participating, and displayed a formidable knowledge of the many sports he followed, especially college football, the Atlanta Braves, golf, and NASCAR. At Georgia Southern, Brian was an active member of the Delta Chi Fraternity, as well as a variety of other on-campus activities. Brian was predeceased by his brother, Jeffrey, who succumbed to leukemia earlier this year. Brain had served as a stem cell donor for his brother, and subsequently became involved in a variety of activities aimed at curing blood cancers, including the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life,” and registering on the National Bone Marrow registry. Brian’s wit and charm endeared him to the many individuals privileged enough to have been touched by his all-too-short life, and his spirit continues to live on in us all. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National Bone Marrow Foundation in honor of Brian’s commitment to helping victims of blood cancers. Brian is survived by his loving parents, Claude and Nancy Horne of Sandy Springs, GA; his older brother, Allyn Horne, of Washington, DC; grandfather, Claude Horne, Sr. of Riverside, California; aunt and uncle, Cathy and Victor Thayer of Upland, California; uncle, Larry Norman of Fayetteville, Georgia; and numerous cousins and friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 12 Noon at Sandy Springs Chapel. Rev. Larry Haron will officiate. Interment will follow in Arlington Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday evening at Sandy Springs Chapel Funeral Directors, 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy., NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
