KNOW all Men by these Presents, That I John Norman in the Parrish [sic] of Beach Hill in the County of «blank space» in the Province aforesaid am Holden and firmly Bound and obliged unto Alexander Wood and Francis Corbin in the parrish [sic] of St George Dorchester in the County of Berkley Shop Keepers in the full and just Sum of Two Hundred and Thirty four pounds Eight Shillings and five pence [£234-8s-5p] good and lawful Money of the province aforesaid to be paid unto the said Alexander Wood and Francis Corbin or Either of Them certain Attorney, Heirs, Executors, Administrators or Assigns. To the which Payment well and truly to be made and done, I Bind myself my Executors and Administrators and Assign's [sic] firmly by these Presents. Sealed with my Seal. Dated the Twenty fourth Day of May in the «blank space» Year of His Majesty's Reign, Annoq; Domini, 1744 [24 May 1744].

THE CONDITION of the above Obligation is such, That if the above bounden John Norman his Heirs, Executors, Administrators or any of them, shall and do well and truly pay, or cause to be paid unto the Above-named Alexd. [Alexander] Wood and Frans. [Francis] Corbin or Either of them or their Heirs, Executors, Administrators or Assigns, the full and just sum of One Hundred and Seventeen pounds four shillings and five pence 1/2 penney [£117-4s-5 1/2p] Good and Lawfull [sic] money of the province aforesaid with Lawfull [sic] Intrest [sic] of Ten [____] on or before the first Day of January which will be in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and forty four [01 Jan 1744] without Fraud, Coven, or further Delay; then the above Obligation to be void and of none Effect, or else to be and remain in full Force and Virtue.

GEORGE the Second, by the Grace of God, of Great-Britain, France and Ireland, KING, Defender of the Faith, &c. To the Provost-Marshal of our Province of South-Carolina GREETING. We command you without Delay to attach the Body of John Norman of our Province aforesaid Wheresoever he may be and within our said Province, so that you compel him to be and appear before our Justices at our Court of Common Pleas, to be held at Charles-Town, the First Tuesday in January next to answer to Alexander Wood & Francis Corbin of a plea of Tresspass [sic] on the Case and so forth, and also for promisses [sic] made and not performed by the said John to the said Alexander & Francis To the Damage of the said Alexander and Francis Two hundred pounds [£200] Current money of the Province aforesaid. And have you then and there this Writ. Witness Benjamin Whitaker, Esq; our Chief Justice at Charles-Town, the second Day of October Anno Domini One Thousand Seven Hundred and forty four [02 Oct 1744] and in the eighteenth Year of our Reign.

John Norman of our Province aforesaid was Summoned to answer to Alexr. [Alexander] Wood and Francis Corbin of a plea of Tresspass [sic] on the case and so forth and whereupon the said Alexander & Francis by John Rattray their Attorney complain That whereas the said John Norman on the Twenty fifth day of April in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and forty three [25 Apr 1743] at Charlestown in the Province afd. [aforesaid] was Indebted to the said Alexander & Francis in the Sum of Ninty [sic] four pounds fourteen shillings & four pence half penny [£94-14s-4 1/2p] current money for Diverse goods wares & merchandizes [sic] in the accompt herewith filed particularly set forth Expressed & Specified of the said Alexander & Francis by them before that Time [unreadable, possibly “Sealed &”] Delivered to the said John at this Special Instance & request and being so Indebted the said John afterwards to wit the same Day & year at Charlestown aforesaid in the Province aforesaid in Consideration thereof then & there undertook & faithfully promised that he the said John would [unreadable] and truly pay to the said Alexander & Francis the said Sum of Ninty [sic] four pounds fourteen shillings and four pence half penny whenever after he should be thereto required

And whereas the said Alexander & Francis afterwards to wit the same day & year at Charlestown aforesaid & at the special Instance & Request of the said John Sold & Declared to him diverse other goods wares & merchandizes [sic] in the said Accompt Specified of them the said Alexander & Francis & He the said John in consideration thereof then & there undertook & faithfully promised That he the said John would well & truly pay to the said Alexander & Francis so much money as such goods wares and merchandizes [sic] [unreadable…paper deteriorated and missing at fold] Delivery thereof whenever after he should be thereto required And the said Alexander & Francis in fact say that the said goods wares & merchandizes [sic] So Sold & delivered to the said John by the said Alexander & Francis as above were at the time of the sale and delivery thereof reasonably worth further sum of Ninty [sic] four pound [sic] fourteen shillings & four pence half penny to wit at Charlestown afd. [aforesaid] of which the said John afterwards to wit the same day & year at Charlestown afd. had had noticed Nevertheless the said John Norman not Regarding his several promises & assumptions made [unreadable word] manner as above But contriving & fraudulently Intending Craftilly [sic] & subtelly [sic] to deceive & defraud the said Alexander Wood & Francis Corbin in this particular hath not paid the said severale [sic] sums of money or any part thereof to the said Alexr. & Francis nor in any manner heresoever made them satisfaction for the same altho so to do the said John hath been thereto often requested But altogether hath & still doth refuse to pay [_________] the damages[?] of the said Alexander & Francis Two hundred pounds [£200] Current money of the Province aforesaid and therefore they bring their suit & so forth
