Slave Sale, William Norman to Sarah and Rebecca Andrews, Colleton County SC, 11 Mar 1771

South Carolina. Ss.

Know all Men by these Presents that I William Norman of Colleton County, in the Province of South Carolina, Planter, for and in Consideration of the Love and good will, which I have and bear unto Sarah Andrews and Rebecca Andrews, Infants and sisters two Daughters of Isham Andrews of the same County and Province Wheel Wright and for divers [sic] other good and valuable Causes and considerations me thereunto moving, and for and in further Consideration of the Sum of fifteen shillings [15s] current money of the said Province to me in hand, at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents well and truly paid, by the said Sarah Andrews and Rebecca Andrews the receipt whereof I the said William Norman do hereby acknowledge, and for settling the Negroe or slave wench named Moll /of me the said William Norman and such Issue as she shall hereafter happen to have to such uses Intents and purposes as herein after is respectively mentioned limited and declared of for and concerning the same respectively, I the said William Norman, have given Granted, Bargained Sold, assigned and set over, and by these presents, do fully freely and clearly, Give Grant Bargain Sell assign set over and deliver unto the said Sarah Andrews and Rebecca Andrews their Executors administrators and assigns my said Negroe or slave wench named Moll as aforesaid, and all my Estate, right Title Interest use Trust Possession, Property To have and to hold the said Negroe or slave wench named Moll with her future Issue and increase unto the said Sarah Andrews and Rebecca Andrews their Executors administrators and Assigns for ever, and the Labour, Earnings and clear Profits of the said Negroe or slave wench named Moll, and of her Issue and increase during the respective minorities of the said Sarah Andrews and Rebecca Andrews to be applied to the defraying the Charges of their Maintainance [sic] and Cloathing [sic]. And I the said Wm: [William] Norman the said Negroe or slave wench named Moll & all & Singular her future Issue & Increase unto the said Sarah Andrews & Rebecca Andrews, their Exors [Executors] Admors [Administrators] & assigns against all & every other Person & Persons whatsoever, lawfully claiming or to claim the same shall & will Warrant & for ever Defend by these Presents

In Witness whereof I the said Wm: Norman have hereunto set my Hand & Seal, the Eleventh Day of March in the Eleventh Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord King George the Third & in the Year of our Lord Christ One Thousand Seven Hundred & Seventy one [11 Mar 1771].

Sealed & Delivered, & at the same time Possession & Seizen [sic: Seizin or Seisin] of the above named Negroe or Slave Wench Moll was given to the said Sarah & Rebecca Andrews above named, by the abovesaid Wm: Norman by the Delivery (by him) of an English Silver Sixpence, to the above named Father Isham Andrews on their Behalf and in the name of the said Slave, in the Presence of.

Personally appeared before me Wm: Byers who being duly sworn on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God made Oath that he was present & saw Wm: Norman Sign his name acknowledge his Seal & Deliver this Instrument of Writing as his act & Deed for the uses & Purposes therein mentioned & that He the Deponent together with Jonathan Bacon, Subscribed their names as Witnesses to the same.
