Will of Jacob Weston, Berkley County SC, 17 Sep 1768

In the Name of God, Amen, I Jacob Weston, of St: Georges Parish Berkley County, in the Province of South Carolina, Planter, being infirm and very weak in Body, but of a Sound Mind and Memory do make Ordain and Ratify this my Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and disannulling all others whatsoever, as followeth,

First I Recommend my Soul to Almighty God, that gave it, and my Body I Recommend to the Earth, to be decently buried according to the discretion of my Executors, in hopes of a Glorious Resurrection, Thro' Jesus Christ to Eternal Life my Lawful Debts and funeral Charges First being paid, I dispose of all my Worldly Estate as Followeth Viz:

Imprimis, first of all I leave my Household furniture and Stock to be Sold and the Monies Arising therefrom to be put to use for the benefit of my two Loving Children, Rebekah Weston and Mary Weston to B [sic] equally divided between my aforesaid Two Children, and my Slaves I leave entirely at the discretion of my Executors to act and do by them, as they shall think best for the benefit of my said two Children Rebekah and Mary,

Item I do give and bequeath my whole Estate to be equally divided between my two Loving Children Rebekah and Mary Weston to share and share alike and each to Receive their share when they shall Arrive the age of Seventeen or at their Marriage day which ever shall first happen and if either should die before they Arrive to the Age of Seventeen Years or Married, then the Longest liver to possess and heir the whole.

Lastly I Constitute and Appoint my Loving Nephew William Norman and my Loving Friends Josiah Smith Junr: [Junior] and William Mell Executors of this my last Will and Testament to Manage and dispose of all my Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with as above mentioned,

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Seventeenth day of September, in the year of our Lord, One Thousand Seven hundred and Sixty Eight [17 Sep 1768].

Signed, Sealed, published and delivered by the above said Jacob Weston as his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have Subscribed our Names as Witnesses in the presence and at the Request of the said Testator the day and year above written.
