Job Chamberline Last Will & Testament

In the Name of God Amen I Job Chamberline of Colleton County in the Province of South Carolina being Weak & Sick of Body; but of Perfect mind & memory thanks be given to God, therefore Calling to mind the mortality of my Body Knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die; Do make & ordain this my Last will & Testament,

Principally & first of all, I Recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it, and as for my Body I Commit it to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian like & Decent manner, all the Discression [sic] of my Exrs. [Executors] whom I shall hereafter nominate and as touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it hath Please God to Bless me in the life I give Devise & Dispose of the same in the following manner & form

Imprimis my Will is that all my Debt be fairly Paid & Satisfied out of the Incums [sic: Incomes] arising from my Estate

Item my Will is that my Dear & well Beloved Wife Sarah [née Norman] Chamberline Shall have the use of my Plantation & house for & During the time that my Son Comes to the age of twenty years or whilest she continues my Widdow [sic], for the Bringing up my Children & after my Son comes to the age aforesd. [aforesaid] she shall have one half of this my Dwelling House and Liberty in the Kitchen and two Hundred [200] acres of Land Laid out at the Discretion of my Executors Dureing [sic] her Natural Life or Widdowhood [sic] Likewise I give & Bequeth [sic] to my said Wife a Riding horse & Saddle & all my Household Goods and Furniture; Except my fire arms; to Dispose of as she shall see fitt [sic] or Convenient.

Item I give & Bequeath to my Loving Son William Chamberline all my Real Estate to be Injoyed [sic] by him & his Heirs & assigns for ever after he arrives to the age of Twenty years he Paying all my Two Daughters Rebeckah Chamberline & Susannah Chamberline Each of them one hundred Pounds [£100] at the age of Eighteen years or the Day of marriage Likewise I give & Bequeath to my Said Son Said Son [sic: repeated] Willm. Chamberline all my fire arms; a horse Called Button and Saddle.

Item I give & Bequeath all my Personall [sic] Estate that is not afore Bequeathed to be Equally Devided [sic] amongst my Wife & Children, as namely my Wife Sarah Chamberline my Son William Chambeline & Mary Chamberline to be injoyed by them & their heirs & assigns forever my Said Daughters to Injoy their Respective Shairs [sic: Shares] at the Age of Eighteen Years or the Day of Marriage

Item I give & Bequeath to my Daughter Rebeckah Chamberlain [sic] a horse named Button and Saddle & Likewise I give & Bequeath to my Three Daughters Susannah Chamberline & Mary Chamberline & Ann Chamberline Each of them a horse & Saddle as they shall come to the age of ten years

Item my Will is that if any of my Children aforesd. shall Die without Isue [sic] or Children, That then whatsoever is before Bequeathed to them that shall so die shall be Equally Divided amongst those of my Children that shall be then Liveing [sic]

Item I nominate constitue [sic: constitute] ordain & appoint my Dear & well beloved wife Sarah Chamberline Exetrix [sic: Executrix] together with my Respected father in Law Moses Norman & my Loving Friend Moses Graves & Samuel Stevens Exrs. of this my Last & Testament [sic] & I do hereby utterly disallow Revoke & Disannull [sic] all former & other Wills Legacis [sic: Legacies] & Bequest be me before this time named willed & Bequeathed Rattifying [sic] and confirming this & no other to be my Last Will & Testament

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & fix my Seal the Day & Year first above Writen [sic].

By his Excellency Robert Johnson Esqr. Captain General Governour [sic] and Comander [sic] in Chief in & over his majestys Province of So: Carolina & Ordiny [Ordinary] of the Same

To Richard Wareing [sic: Waring] Esqr: [Esquire]

I Reposeing [sic] Especial Trust & Confidence in the Integrity fidelity care & circumspection of you the said Richard Wareing Have & by these Presents Do give & grant unto you full Power & authority to administer the usual oath of an Executrix to Sarah Chamberline Widow & Executrix of the Last & Testament [sic] of Job Chamberline her late husband deceased, a Copy of which Oath is to these Presents annexed & a due[?] return of your doing herein you are to make & give under your hand & Seal for approbation & allowance

Given under my Hand & Seal the Sixteenth day of Feby in the Sixth year of his majestys reign Anno: Dom: 1732 [16 Feb 1732]

Executors Oaths

You Swear that you do believe this Instrument to be the Last Will & Testament of Job Chamberlin [sic], deceased that you will Pay all the Debts & Legacis [sic: Legacies] of the Deceased so fare [sic: far] as his Effects will Extend & the Law Shall Bind you & that you will return a true & Perfect Inventory of all his Effects into the Secretys [Secretarys] Office of This Province according to the time by Law Prescribed for so doing. And finally that you will in all things to the Best of your knowledge behave your Self as an Exetrix [sic: Executrix] by ye Law ought to do. So help you God

Personally came before me Sarah Chamberline & took the oath of an Exix: [Executrix] as is which in Precribed [sic: Prescribed] given under my hand & Seal this Sixth Day of March 1732/3 [06 Mar 1732/3]

Personally came & appeared John Lumpton [sic: Lupton] & James Linus two of the witnesses to the Within Instrumt [Instrument] who being duly Sworn on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God declared they Were Present & Saw Job Chamberlain [sic: Chamberline] the Testator within named Seal Sign Publish & Declare the Same to be his Last Will & Testament & that he was at the Same time of Sound & Disposeing [sic] mind memory & understanding to the Best of the Deponents knowledge & Beliefe [sic] & that they Severally Subscribed their names as Witnesses together with the other Witnesses Rebeccah Simmons in ye sd: Testator Presence
