Will of Isaac Dubose, Craven County SC, 12 Jun 1742

Isaac Dubose

In the name of God Amen.

I Isaac Dubose of the Parish of St. James Santee Craven County and in the Province of South Carolina being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind & memory Do Constitute this my Last Will and Testament Surrendering my Soul unto the hands of Almighty God and my body I committ [sic] to the Earth decently to be buried by my Executors herein mentioned and as to my worldly Estate I give and bequeath in the manner and form following (viz)

Item I give unto my beloved Wife Hester Dubose her heirs and Assigns forever one Negro man named Dublin one Negro wench named Sary and one Negro Child named Ammarett One good Feather bed one Matlas [sic] & Straw bed Bolster Pillow and two Blankets and two pair of Sheets all my Powltry [sic] and a large Sett [sic] of Silver Tea spoons a Riding horse named Clocue one breeding mare and one half part of my Stock of hoggs Six Cows Six Yews.

Item I give unto my Son Isaac Dubose his heirs or Assigns forever One tract of land on the North side of Santee River containing Two hundred and twenty and two [222] Acres of land and one Tract of Land containing two hundred and ten [210] Acres on the north side of Santee River being part of a tract of land containing Four hundred and twenty [420] acres  Also Two hundred and fifty [250] Acres of land which is part of a tract containing five hundred and Sixty [560] Acres on the North side of Santee River  I give also unto my Said Son Isaac Dubose the Choisest [sic] of the Negroe men belonging to me  also a set of Silver Teaspoons marked with “ID”  One feather bed One Matlass [sic] and Straw bed & Bedding Cutlass & Pistols houlsters [sic] laps Saddle and bridle houstens [sic] the Choice of my Guns and Couteouch [sic] box one Bey horse named Cherrykee [sic] and one Mare and Colt from my Stock of mares. 

Item I give unto my Son Joshua Dubose his heirs or Assigns forever one tract of land containing on the north side of Santee River and one tract of Land containing two hundred and ten [210] acres of Land being part of a Tract of Land which contains four hundred & twenty [420] Acres, and two hundred and fifty [250] Acres of Land being part of a Tract of Land which contains five hundred [500] Acres on the north side of Santee River.

Item I give unto my son Jonathan Dubose his heirs or Assigns forever Two hundred Seventy and five [275] Acres of Land on the South side of Santee River being part of a tract of land containing five hundred and fifty [550] Acres and One tract of land containing One hundred thirty and four [134] acres on the South side of Santee River Also One hundred [100] Acres of land part of another Tract joyning [sic] to the said One hundred thirty and four [134] acres of land.

Item I give unto my son Jephtha Dubose his heirs or Assigns Two hundred Seventy and five [275] acres of land being part of a Tract of land containing five hundred and fifty [550] Acres And also one hundred [100] Acres of Land on the North side of Santee River And also one hundred and fifty and five [155] acres of land more or less on the North side of Santee River.

Item I give unto my Two Daughters Susannah Bersheba Dubose and Hester Dubose their heirs forever a Tract of Land containing Six hundred and forty [640] Acres more or less Equally to be divided by my Executors hereinmentioned [sic] and the Residue and Remainder of my personal Estate to be Equally divided amongst my Six Children hereinmentioned [sic] Share and Share alike and I do hereby nominate and appoint Theod: [Theodore] Gaillard William Buchanan & Joseph Huggins to be my Executors to this my last Will & Testament and do hereby give my said Executors full power to Sell and dispose off [sic] three of my Slaves (viz) Hector Port & Patrick

In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand & Seal this twelfth day of June Anno Domini 1742 [12 Jun 1742]٪
