Notes

It is supposed that the ages given for Joseph and Mary in 1860 (89 & 77, respectively) are off by 10. Further, their ages differ by 12 in both 1860 and 1870, so we suppose that to be the correct difference. Combined, we conclude birth years of ca. 1781 & ca. 1793, respectively. Though 12 years younger, Mary would have been 16 when her first child, Allen, was born.
There is a male child enumerated in both 1830 and 1840, but which does not appear in any subsequent census. We suppose this child to be born just before the 1830 census. This means his age in 1840 would be 10, which age is sometimes tallied in the "5 & under 10" column. Other than his existence, no further information is known about this child.
Might Lucinda and Sarah have been twins? Or perhaps Henry and Lucinda? (Indeed, Henry and Lucinda lived next door to each other in four consecutive censuses: 1840-1870.) The occurrence of twins would alleviate the concern about children 2-4 being born in three consecutive years.
