INDI:EVEN:_PRIM: Y Note: There are many people who state that Richard, Sr. (b. ca. 1580, ENG) was son of "John Fryeth Norman" or "John Fryeth, alias Norman". The "Fryeth-to-Norman" name change is of suspect providence. In footnote #1 of Leslie Mahler's article "The English Origin of Richard Norman of Salem, Massachusetts" in The American Genealogist, Vol. 77, No. 2 (April 2002), he states: There are many people who state that Richard, Sr. (b. 77, No. 2 (April 2002), he states: "...Another recent account of this family can be found in Burton W. Spear, ed., 'Search for the Passengers of the Mary & John 1630,' 18: West Country Ancestries, 1620-1633 (Toledo, Ohio, 1992), 102-3, which uses (with a note of caution) the poorest available source: Raymon Meyers Tingley, 'Some Ancestral Lines...' (Rutland, Vt., 1935), 256-58. Tingley has Richard as the son of a John Fryeth alias Norman of Ipswich, Suffolk, which is in a completely different part of England. Tingley also gave Richard a non-existent son named William." So, if your source for the Fryeth/Norman connection is Tingley (or Spear), be careful. If you have more credible source(s), especially primary sources, please provide them to this researcher. |
