Obituary: Sue Norman Burns Owens

HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Sue Norman Burns Owens, 85, of Hermitage, Pa., died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Countryside Nursing Home in Mercer, Pa.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Oakdale Baptist Church Cemetery in Moultrie with the Rev. Jimmy Voyles officiating.

Born Oct. 31, 1919, in Moultrie, Mrs. Owens was the daughter of the late Jeremiah F. Norman and the late Willie Frances Singleton Norman. She graduated from high school in Moultrie in 1935 and was a member of three state championship basketball teams. A bookkeeper, she retired from Owens Machine Co. in Baltimore, Md. Mrs. Owens had been an active member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Moultrie. She enjoyed bowling and gardening.

Her first husband, James F. Burns, whom she married Feb. 13, 1942, died June 3, 1967. Her second husband, Francis T. Owens, whom she married April 11, 1973, died March 30, 1995.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; her second husband; two sisters, Clara Pope and Dana Fessler; and three brothers, Jeremiah Norman Jr., John "Joe" Norman and Leon Norman.

Survivors include two daughters, Frances S. Sopko and husband Robert Sopko of Hodges, S.C., and Jamye L. Reeher and husband John Reeher II of Hermitage; a son, Norman J. Burns and wife Sharon Burns of Glen Burnie, Md.; two sisters, Rebecca Bailey of Virginia Beach, Va., and Doris Abbott and husband LaRue Abbott of Moultrie; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
