Will of John Spencer, St. Bartholomew's Parish SC, 11 Feb 1736

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN this Eleventh Day of February in ye year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and thirty Six [11 Feb 1736] That I John Spencer of St Bartholomews am very sick & weak of Body but of Perfect mind & memory thanks to Almighty God therefore Calling to mind ye mortality of my body & Knowing it is appointed to all men Once to Dye [sic]

Principally & first of all I Recommend my Soul to Almighty God my Saviour & Redeemer & my body I Recommend to the Earth from whence it came nothing Doubting but I shall receive the same by the Power of God & Touching Such Worldly Estate as it has pleased God to bless me with in this Life I Leave and bequeath as followeth.

My will is that all my Debts which I Lawfully Owe may be paid &c

IMPRIMIS I Leave and bequeath unto my beloved Brother Richard Spencer five hundred [500] Acres of Land upon Combea River as also Six Negro Men for him to injoy [sic] at my deces [sic: decease] with all my Debts that is due unto me.

ITEM I Leave and bequeath unto my dear father Anthony Spencer & Barake Noreman Junr [Barak Norman Jr.] five hundred Acres of Land in Pon Pon

Item I Leave and bequeath unto the said Barake [Barak] Norman Two Negros One boy and one woman Named Henereco & Pegg &c

ITEM I bequeath unto my dear father Anthony Spencer aforesaid two Negros named Sambo & Samson

Item I bequeath unto my beloved Brother Richard Spencer aforesaid all my horses & Hoggs with all my Carpenters tools.

Item I apoint [sic] and Ordain my beloved Father Anthony Spencer Rd [Richard] Spencer & Barake Noreman Senr [Barak Norman Sr.] To Exors [Executors] of this my Last Will and Testament & I revoke & Disanul [sic] all other wills & Testaments

In Witness whereof I fix my hand & Seal the Day & Year Abovementioned.

Thomas Syllavant. [sic: Sillavant] Sarah Singellton [sic: Singleton] George Barnett

Personally appeared Before Me Thos [Thomas] Sillavant & Geo: [George] Barnett and made Oath on the holy Evangelists that they Saw John Spencer Sign Seal and Deliver his Last will WILL [sic: repeated] and Testament & that they Saw Mrs. Singilton [sic: Singleton] Sign as one of the witnesses.

Given under my hand & Seal this 1st Day of July 1737 [01 Jul 1737]

I REPOSING ESPECIAL TRUST AND CONFIDENCE in the Integrity fidelity Care and Circumspection of you the said Richard Waring Have & by these presents Do Give unto you full Power and Authority to Examine the Several Witnesses to ye Last Will and Testament of Jno [John] Spencer Late of St. Bartholomews Parrish [sic] in the Province aforesaid Planter decd as shall be brought before you on their Several Corporal Oath on ye holy Evangilists of Almighty God to be tken touching ye due Execution of the same according to the Act of Parlament [sic] in that Case made and Provided and also to Administer the ysyal Oath to ye Executors therein nam'd and a due Return of your doings theirin [sic] you are to make and Give to me under your hand & Seal for my approbation and Allowance.

Given under my hand and Seal this fourteenth day of June in ye 10 year of his Majestys Reign Anno: Domo: 1737 [14 Jun 1737]
